This will be a 8-week program for kids ages 8-13.
Meetings will be held weekly, on Tuesday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
Once a week on Wednesday the kids should perform a strength training exercise routine as predetermined by the Coach. Handouts with the routine of the week will be handed out at the at the Saturday/Sunday long run.
Participants should be able to run 15 minutes without stopping prior to beginning of training. The focus will be on the basics of running, including form and techniques. It will not focus on speed or racing.
At the completion of the 8-week program, the kids will have the option of participating in a 5K.
Develop an understanding of a running program, as well as learn the physiological components of the sport.
Achieve the ability to jog or run for 30 minutes several days a week and a 5K long run.
Encourage proper running form and incorporate yoga and other stretching techniques.
Develop character skills (setting goals, encouraging others, positive attitude, etc.) and an understanding of the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
This inaugural program is only open to family members of the San Antonio RoadRunners. Registration for each child will be $20.00 and will include training, materials (journals) and a T-shirt. Registration will be available shortly.
